The Federal Executive Council yesterday approved N2.2 billion for the construction of new presidential banquet hall in Abuja, FCT Minister Bala Mohammed has said. He said this while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

He said the Banquet Hall would be executed at the cost of N2.2 billion, while the resurfacing of some selected existing roads and remedial works on bridges in Garki and Wuse 1 Districts would cost another N2.78 billion. He said that the construction of the new 150-seater Banquet Hall was awarded to Julius Berger Nig. Plc for security reasons.

The government had built a new Banquet Hall in 2003 ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
